Oilfield services company Schlumberger (SLB) and drilling contractor Nabors Industries have announced a collaboration to integrate their drilling automation applications and rig operating systems. The partnership aims to improve well construction performance and efficiency by providing customers with a broader range of drilling automation technologies. The collaboration will enable customers to utilise their existing rig control systems and equipment on either SLB’s PRECISE or Nabors’ SmartROS rig operating system. This integration aims to overcome system integration bottlenecks that have hindered the global adoption of drilling automation. Both companies believe that industry collaboration is key to scaling up the adoption of automated drilling solutions globally.
The collaboration will allow SLB to make its high-performance drilling capabilities, including Neuro autonomous directional drilling, more accessible to E&P customers and drilling contractors worldwide. The partnership also aims to expand the installed base of Nabors’ digital solutions beyond its own rigs. Both companies are optimistic that this collaboration will break down barriers and accelerate the adoption of drilling automation solutions across the industry.
