The next stage of the automation of the passport application process in Nigeria is set to begin on January 8, 2024, according to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. This stage will allow Nigerians to apply and complete their passport application process online without human contact. The automation process began in 2016, and the previous administration introduced an online portal for passport application. The new stage of automation is expected to improve the security architecture of the country by detecting fake passport applications and reducing bottlenecks.
