TLDR:

  • New Jersey Institute of Technology has earned Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) status
  • Efforts include the creation of a Hispanic and Latinx Leadership Council

New Jersey Institute of Technology has achieved the designation of being a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) by the U.S. Department of Education. This recognition was achieved through the institute’s efforts in increasing Hispanic student enrollment and fostering relationships with Hispanic and Latinx alumni, businesses, and organizations. These efforts, including the establishment of a Hispanic and Latinx Leadership Council, have resulted in a growth of the Hispanic undergraduate population from 20% to 25%. This milestone not only makes NJIT eligible for federal grants to enhance educational opportunities for Hispanic and Latinx students but also demonstrates the institute’s commitment to diversity and providing a holistic education for all students, particularly first-generation students.
