A single-chip, highly integrated solution for designers of mobile phone-controlled smart lock systems has been developed by Infineon. The NFC energy-harvesting solution enables battery-free smart locks by generating the necessary milliwatt range of power required to ensure continuous operation. The technology addresses common issues with battery-powered smart locks in terms of battery life, replacement costs, and safety concerns. NFC energy-harvesting can provide the necessary power and is widely available on mobile phones, making it a practical and accessible choice for users. Infineon’s solution can harvest 20 to 50mW from the NFC field, depending on the type of mobile phone in use, and enables the creation of miniaturized, battery-free smart lock systems.
