Renesas and Hailo have teamed up to demonstrate level 3 and automated driving using Renesas’ R-car processor and Hailo’s AI accelerator chip. The demo showcases the use of AI acceleration in the chiplet-based ecosystem planned by Renesas. The demo utilizes the Renesas R-Car V4H Series processor, which streams video from six 2MP cameras. The video streams are analyzed in real-time by the Hailo-8 AI accelerator for high-accuracy object detection. The combination of the R-car processor and Hailo chip enables advanced automation features in mass-market vehicles with high accuracy, low latency, and low power consumption. The Hailo chip offers up to 26 TOPS of performance at a typical power consumption of 2.5W. This collaboration between Renesas and Hailo follows a deal made between the two companies in 2022.
